The study of the Shroud has now become a perilous undertaking. There is much conflicting information, some intentionally created, and any number of legitimate "experts" have published papers that contradict each other. The web in particular is populated with a high number of sites on the Shroud that, unfortunately, can act together to obscure rather than reveal the truth. So what is one to do? Our advice is to go carefully and study the issues with some care. The Shroud Center's site is specifically designed to help you do that. There are several other sites, however, that we would like you to become familiar with, two in particular. We have referenced these sites below. They complement the information found here and we believe they will be helpful to your studies.
This is the "Official Site of the Holy Shroud" created and sponsored by the Archdiocese of Turin in Italy. The Holy See (Vatican) holds official title to the Shroud but the Shroud itself is housed in Turin and is in the custody of the Archdiocese there.
This site was created and is maintained by Barrie M Schwortz. Barrie was a trusted and greatly valued member of the STURP team. Dr. Jackson was honored to serve with him and has continued his relationship with Barrie since the STURP days. This site is unquestionably the best and most comprehensive site for the archival of research papers on the Shroud. The individual student in searching for answers on the Shroud must, as any good researcher must, take care in sorting the wheat from the chaff. Of particular value are the Shroud photos, many of which are Barrie's original photographs.
